MALGA SADOLE – 1600 metres

PROGRAM
- 9.00 am: Meet up in Ziano at the rotatory, at the pizzeria 3/4. Drive up to the malga (mountain dairy) along a 3 km stretch of surfaced forest road and then on foot through woods and meadows for about 1 hour. Anyone not taking part in the excursion can visit the malga on their own by taking the surfaced roa
d from Ziano for about 3 km and then continuing along an unsurfaced track to the malga for about 4 km.
- 11.00 am: Visit to the malga with cheesemaking demonstration. The manager is on hand to give a display of how cheese, butter and ricotta are made and give an insight into the typical day in the life of the hard-working ‘malgaro’. Optional traditional lunch.
The Malga Sàdole is made up of the malga and a shed housing about 50 head of cattle, a couple of donkeys, ten horses and a herd of goats.

- 8.30 am: Meet up in Cavalese at the Cermis lifts departure (iceskating rink) at 9.00 am in Sicina, a hamlet outside of Valfloriana. From here everyone makes their o
wn way by car along a surfaced road till the malga. The walk up to the ‘Pradi da le Fior’ (‘Flower Meadows’) overlooking the Valle di Fiemme takes about one and a half hours and includes a number of breathtaking views from the Brenta Dolomites to the Ortles-Cevedale massif.
- 11.30 am: Visit to the malga with cheesemaking demonstration. Optional lunch as would be eaten on the summer pastures. The Malga Sass dairy includes farmhouse accommodation and restaurant. From June through to mid-September about 40 Brown Mountain and Red Pied breed cattle, as well as horses and pigs graze or forage on the Alpine meadows. Organic cheese, flavoured ‘caciotta’ cheeses, and ricotta all produced.
